Topic Main + Main Idea

Topic: The reaction to Paris attack compared to the Kenya Attack.

Main idea1: The article was the way that many people found out about the Kenya attack
Main idea 2: Some deaths seem to matter more to us than others.
Main idea 3: Care about when terrible things happen to places that feel close.
Main idea 4: It is the closeness to Paris that made so many Americans express their sadness on social media.

Author's POV + Purpose

The author's point of view is treat all terrorist attack the same.

•First Evidence : "Not many Americans have traveled to Kenya or Beirut. For that reason it is understandable that Americans did not react as much to the killing in those places. However, that does not mean it is right for us to care less."

•Second Evidence : "It does not matter that we do not have vacation photos taken in Kenya or Beirut, we do not get to ignore the horrible killing in those places."

•Third Evidence : "The attack in Kenya was just as terrible as what happened in Paris. Fighters killed students and others at Kenya's Garissa University College. Yet back in April there was almost nothing about it on Facebook and Twitter. There was no outpouring of sadness and support, as there was for Paris."

I agree with the author's point of view, because we cared and reacted right away about the attack in Paris but didn't react about the attack in Kenya after 7 months. I feel like it's racist. And we should care about any attack that happens in the world.

The author's purpose is to inform the reader, that why did Paris get all the attention, many people overlaid their profile picture with red, white and blue of the flag of Paris. And Kenya didn't get attention after 7 months after several people found the article on the attack and passed the article on to other people.

Auther's POV .

Many animals have different responsibilities like feeding them, cleaning after them. We have to protect them and treat them like their one of us (human). We have to give love to them. Show them right from wrong like our parents do with us.

The author's point of view :"Shamu" -  The orca's shouldn't be kept in tanks .

Give three pieces of evidence to support your answer: The Shamu articles says, "he wants a law that would keep orcas from giving birth to baby whales in tanks." , "Orcas are used to swimming in big areas. Confining them in tanks can change their behavior." , "Schiff said that orcas do not do well in tanks."

The author's point of view: Endangered - The orcas should stay in the tanks because it's not mistreating them.

Give three pieces of evidence to support your answer: The Endangered article says, "NOAA said that keeping an orca in an aquarium is not necessarily mistreatment." "NOAA officials said on wednesday that holding an animal captive is not, in and of itself, mistreatment." "NOAA Fisheries said their decision does not address wheather Lolita should be released from the Seaquarium."

How do the two authors distinguish their points of view from each other: Because the author from "Shamu" tells us readers why keeping the killer whales in tanks isn't good for them and also gives peoples opinions on this; but the author for "Endangered" tells us what other people opinions are on keeping the whales in tanks. Both authors have different points/opinions.

Exciting Moment .

The exciting moment in my book, Avengers, was when seven guys that worked for Mysterio came into the factory building. The workers for Mysterio broke in just to find out where the location of the cameras and the Avengers armer was. They had guns, and they were buff. Then, Iron Man and Captain America came in and started beating them up, but they couldn't take all of them. A few moments later, the bad guys felt something around them but couldn't see anything. It was the Invisible Women. She took down four of them; Iron Man and Captain America took down the rest

Sensory Language .

See : "Manny saw nothing but darkness."
Smelled : "Manny smelled the lobster in the restaurant."
Hear : "Manny heard the horror audience behind him yelling!"

Comment : The sensory language made me imagine that I was there in the restaurant. It gave more excitement to the setting.

Story Elements Influence .

I am reading Avengers. The settings are in the United Nation and New York. Captain America & Thor went because of a contract they were supposed to sign. The Avengers felt mad/pressured. Because the avengers are in New York they fight villains.

The conflict in book is the U.N was pressuring the Avengers into signing a contract that way they would have control over them. Captain America and Thor noticed. They reacted and told the guy off. They told the guy to tell all the people that were in this that the plan has failed.

Story Elements .

In the book I'm reading The Classroom The Epic Documentary of a Not-Yet-Epic Kid, on Miller Street, there's Westside Middle School. Westside is like any other middle school, it has desks, textbooks, detention slips etc .  . But in Westside Middle School there's Trevor Jones. Trevor has long hair, small eyes, new clothes on. Now that Trevor is in middle school he wants to be different, no more baseball cards, no more lucky pencils.

Inference .

In my book The Classroom, the character Trevor, is trying to act "cool" with his friend Corey. In the text it said he tried saying "man" in every sentence he said.
